Managing Pain That Won't Go Away
Pain that lasts for months, or even years, is known as chronic pain. It’s debilitating and it affected an estimated 20.9% of people in the United States in 2021, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Chronic pain can appear in different forms and affect different parts the body, although the most common include arthritis, back pain, neck pain, cancer pain near a tumor, headaches including migraines, pain from scar tissue, muscle pain and neurogenic pain from nerve damage, according to the Cleveland Clinic.
Just as there can be several types of chronic pain, there are several ways to treat it depending on the type of pain, the cause of the pain and the age and overall health of the person affected.
In its continuing commitment to helping the Rio Grande Valley community stay on top of their health, South Texas Health System is next focusing on chronic pain in the September installment of its “Let’s Talk Your Health” series. This special online seminar will highlight the treatment options available to help manage chronic pain.
