Welcome to the Transitional Year Residency Program in South Texas
A message from Helena Cobos, MD
Program Director, Transitional Year Residency Program
It is with great excitement and pride that I welcome you to the inaugural year of the Transitional Year Residency Program at the South Texas Health System GME Consortium in McAllen, Texas. This marks a significant milestone in our ongoing commitment to medical education, professional development and service to our vibrant and diverse community in the Rio Grande Valley.
Our program is designed to provide a strong foundation in clinical medicine through a broad-based curriculum that emphasizes patient-centered care, interdisciplinary teamwork and hands-on learning. Whether your path leads to anesthesiology, radiology, dermatology or another specialty, our goal is to prepare you with the knowledge, skills and professional values necessary for success in your future training and practice.
We are deeply committed to fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment where residents are not only challenged academically, but also encouraged to grow personally and professionally. At South Texas Health System, you will train alongside compassionate clinicians, dedicated educators and a community that values both service and innovation.
As you embark on this transformative year, know that you are part of something special — building a legacy of excellence and compassion in graduate medical education right here in McAllen. We are honored to be part of your journey and look forward to helping you reach your full potential.
Welcome to our family — and to a year that will shape the rest of your career.
