Preventing Complications from Diabetes

The Rio Grande Valley is known to have a high prevalence of diabetes, with Hidalgo County having the highest rate of diagnosed diabetes in adults out of the entire state, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

It can lead to health complications such as heart disease, chronic kidney disease, nerve damage and other problems with feet, oral health, vision, hearing and mental health. However, type 2 diabetes can be prevented, or at least delayed, with lifestyle changes such as weight loss and increased physical activity.

In its commitment to helping the community stay healthy, South Texas Health System is dedicating the next installment of its “Let’s Talk Your Health” series to one of the most common health conditions affecting the people of the Valley today. This online seminar will raise awareness on how to prevent diabetes and the dangers not keeping it under control.
