Recognizing Our Hometown Heroes

Superheroes do exist. They’re known as first responders. During a medical emergency, accident or crisis, these brave men and women are the first on the scene and in many cases risk their own lives to save others.

When the world shut down with the emergence of COVID-19, first responders never took a break. Their workload and responsibilities only compounded. It takes selflessness, dedication and bravery to be a first responder. It’s not for everyone, but those who dedicate their life to service are rewarded by knowing that their actions have an effect on countless lives — from the ones they help save to their families and friends.

If you have had an encounter with an exceptional first responder — whether a firefighter, police officer, emergency medical technician or Border Patrol agent — and would like to see them recognized for going above and beyond their job description, nominate them for South Texas Health System’s Hometown Heroes award.

If your nominee is selected, a celebration will be held in their honor.
