Benefits
The Consortium offers a comprehensive benefits package for residents, including medical, dental, vision, disability and other benefits. Coverage is also offered for family members at an additional cost to the Resident. These benefits are effective on the 31st day of employment. The South Texas Health System GME Consortium agrees to offer the benefits shown below based upon a 12-month appointment.

- Paid Leave and PTO Plan: The CONSORTIUM and South Texas Health System Facilities intend to comply with all Texas and Federal laws related to Medical Leave and Paid Time Off (PTO). The PTO plan provides the Resident with four (4) weeks paid time off or twenty (20) working days per academic program year. PTO may be used for vacation, illness, CME, holidays or personal reasons.
- Residents/fellows will be provided six weeks of approved medical, parental and caregiver leave(s) of absence for qualifying reasons that are consistent with applicable laws at least once and at any time during an ACGME-accredited program, starting the first day of clinical training.
- Residents/fellows will be provided one week of paid time off reserved for use outside of the first six weeks of the first approved medical, parental or caregiver leave(s) of absence taken.
- Unpaid Leave: Unpaid leaves (i.e., medical, PFL) are subject to PFL and/or State of Texas laws.
